The Society of St. Pius X Does “Bossuet for Lent”

It’s a little late in the game, I know, but I just discovered that the venerable Society of St. Pius X had posted for this Lent soon past a series from Bossuet’s Meditations on the Gospel.  The series is as follows:

  1. Jesus’ Victory and Power Over Death
  2. Jesus’ Friendship Is a Model For Ours
  3. Profusion of Perfume on Jesus’ Head and Feet
  4. Profusion of Perfume on Jesus’ Head and Feet
  5. At this sad spectacle Jesus could not keep back His tears
  6. Jesus’s Sojourn in Jerusalem
  7. The Jealousy of the Pharisees
  8. The Character of Humiliation and Death
  9. Jesus Christ Is the Grain of Wheat
  10. In His Combat and Victory, Jesus Is Our Model
  11. (missing number)
  12. The Power of the Cross
  13. The recovery of the universe has been the fruit of this cruel and mysterious exaltation
  14. Jesus Draws Everyone Through the Cross
  15. The Incredulous Will Not Open Their Eyes to the Light (this is also posted in a fuller form here)
  16. The Unbeliever Walks in Darkness (continuation of the previous post)
  17. The Desiccated Fig Tree
  18. A Symbol of the Sterile Soul Without Good Works
  19. Man is Clothed with the Power of God Through Faith and Prayer (this is also posted in a fuller form here)
  20. Salvation and Prayer
  21. So they had two testimonies: that of His word and, even stronger, that of His miracles
  22. The Blindness of Men
  23. The Just Punishment of the Jews
  24. What Does It Mean to Render Fruit In Season?
  25. The Blindness of the Jews
  26. The Blindness of the Jews in Misunderstanding Christ
  27. The parable of the wedding feast. The Jews are the wedding guests who refuse to come.
  28. The Parable of the Wedding Feast
  29. The Parable of the Wedding Feast
  30. The Poor and Infirm Are Called to the Wedding Feast
  31. The Triumphant Entrance of Our Lord into Jerusalem (this is also posted in a fuller form here)
  32. The Triumphant Entrance of Our Lord
  33. The Character of Authority in the Triumph of Jesus Christ (this is also posted in a fuller form here)
  34. Follow Jesus in Humiliation and Death
  35. Pray With Faith. Ask. Seek. Knock.

My pdf file for the entire work is here.  I have always wondered why the “trads” seldom refer to Bossuet, probably the best preacher the Church ever produced.  Perhaps this will begin to change that.
